This was my Christmas tree this year. I love this, because it shows some of the half-wrapped gifts from little, curious hands getting a sneak peek, and ornaments on the floor from two little boys playing swords with rolls of wrapping paper.

Bird's Nest Necklaces

I made these cute bird's nest necklaces for a bunch of friends and family members this Christmas. They were a hit! They are so simple, yet so cute! I originally saw the idea on pinterest, and then replicated it. All you have to do is string as many beads onto a long piece of wire (I like the look of three best, but also think that just one big pearl looks cool.) and then you just twist the wire in a circle til you have the right size nest. So easy! I have seen people make these as Mother's necklaces with beads the colors of her kid's birthstones. That would be super cute for Mother's day!

Here is an apron I whipped up one night for my sister, for Christmas. I hope she likes it as much as I do! (I almost kept it!)

Yikes it has never been this far between posts. Oops. I guess life happened. Which means I am expecting again, and this time has by far been my hardest pregnancy. I am expecting my third BOY the end of April, 2012. (I thought I better put the year, in case I don't post for another couple years...:)

I have been meaning to make one of these forever, but my sewing machine broke, and so I didn't have one for months. It was driving me crazy, so I am now borrowing my Mom's OLD White brand sewing machine that she got when she graduated from high school! lol But it works like a charm!!

This was my first time making a ruffle. And I think I will be putting ruffles on just about everything now. Maybe even my boys' clothes. (jk, husband.)

A D.I. Vase Thingy

I bought this little vase thingy at DI for a dollar, and it was white, and kinda ugly. So I spray painted it red, added some raffia and bought a cute bird to set in it like a nest! It now resides in my living room! I also did some product photography and used it as one of my props:)

Another Father's Day gift idea

I found these mugs at Target in the Dollar Section! Then I rolled up a tie and stuffed it in there and wrapped it up! I got those cute books for a couple bucks at Seagull Book, and then made a couple cards to go with! :)

Fathers Day...a little late

For Fathers Day I did some cute bottles full of all my hubby's favorite treats! Then that same week, I made one for my brother's 30th birthday! Such a fun little way to make someone feel special, even the fella's. I got my free printables for this from another blogger, who I cannot find anymore:( So if you know who did this, let me know cause I would love to give them credit! :) Very cute idea, and even cuter with the retro labels!

Whoa. Please excuse my looooong absence! I have never gone this long without blogging here! I have been SUPER DUPER busy with my photography lately. I have started shooting preschools and private schools in the Salt Lake/Utah counties, and believe I have found my nich in photography! If you know of a preschool, small private school, or small charter school or even dance or team portraits, please send them my way!! Don't forget to check out my Photography Blog! :)

ANYWAY, I'm not blogging to tell you about my photography. I'm blogging to tell you about my super awesome birthday bash!! :) This year, I had me and the gals in my fam go to Heartfelt Wall Hangings and make a craft! K, if you live in UTAH, this is a MUST go to place! Not only is this super fun, but it's totally affordable and Hiedi (the gal who owns and runs it) is fabulous!! She is super nice and accomodating! I went again today (a month after my bday party) and made some adorable decor, and Hiedi even provided the cookies and diet coke! HELLO people! Is that not amazing!?

We each picked out the craft kit we wanted to complete and then sat there and chatted, ate some treats, and painted our wood to put adorable vinyl lettering on.
Here I am, showing off my adorable Welcome Home hanger that is now hanging ever so cutely right next to my front door.

I love these cute picture holders, and I love them even more cause they were....free! Check her blog to see when classes are!

Cakes & Quilts

For Relief So ciety last week, I was asked to teach a cake decorating class. I made this pig cake for one of the examples. Wouldn't any kid love this!? I used strawberry whoppers, pink snowball cakes, jr. mints, and strawberry and chocolate frostings.

We also tied quilts for the humanitarian aid effort that our church (the LDS church) is always contributing to.

We enjoyed lots of other cakes, and so many ladies in our ward have such great talents! These cakes were not only beautiful, but delicious too!!!

Debra Knudsen made this cake...I think SHE should have been the one teaching the cake decorating class! Are you kidding me!? Gorgeous! With the Relief Society symbol on it!

Is it too late for Valentines?

For Christmas, I gave my Mom a pattern for a little wall quilt for each holiday. Then I told her that I kind of gave it to myself too- meaning I was going to join her and make them for me, too:) This was the first one I made, for Valentines Day! I embroidered "Love" in the corner, and all you have to do for the heart is sew strips of fabric together, then trace a heart on it, and cut it out! Then you applique it to the background and bind it! Super easy, and super cute!!

An Old Door, made new again

This old door was in my crawlspace when we moved into this house... along with about five others. I am a sucker for old doors, and antiques in general, so when I saw it, I knew I needed a red door to spice up my living room! Here it is next to my DI LAMP:)

Bow Holder & Baby "Sprinkle"!

This was the center piece I made. The cupcakes were SCRUMPTIOUS!!! White chocolate mousse cupcakes, made by yours truly! And we put maternity pictures that I took of my sister in law around the table!
I made this bow holder for my sister-in-law. I just took apart an old frame that I had and then glued ribbon to the back, and then you can clip bows right onto it! Easy Peasy!

And here it is with all the stuff to make bows with for her shower... I mean SPRINKLE! We had a "sprinkle" instead of a shower, cause this was her third baby, but her first GIRL! So she didn't need all the usual baby stuff, but she did need to be "sprinkled" with some girl stuff! :) Everyone made bows for the baby, ate yummy food, and had a fun time "oooing" and "awwing" over all the adorable baby girl clothes:)

A twin for my cedar chest!

I went visiting teaching last week, and I received a blessing...
All of a sudden, Leslie said "Hey I have this chair...do you want it?" And I was like "Oh my gosh! This is a blessing for coming to visit teach!!" I LOVE this chair! And I was hesitant to even do anything to it, cause it was already so dang cute! BUT, I have been wanting to balance out my living room....so I made it a twin to my cedar chest:)
Just painted it, getting ready to glaze and seal it.
And here it is now!:

I know it is a drastic change from what it was before...and I love both looks! But, this matches my room better...AND I can use it as a new photography prop! Bonus!!

Bad memory to Good memory

I know a man who made this in high school. That man is a BAD man, and since I always thought this was ugly, I decided to refurbish it and make it into a good memory...and a cute piece of furniture!

Ready to have a makeover!

I have been searching for a chair that I could paint red to use for my photography, and I found this little Thrift Shop and went in and saw this simple wooden chair for $5! I bought it, and carried it out to my car where my husband was waiting...when I opened up the back to stick it in my car, my husband just rolled his eyes at my new treasure:)Anyway, here it is in action! Look at that cute bundle on top of it! ADORABLE!

Dang it! I can't find the before picture to this big vase anywhere! But here is the after shot of it at least. About a month ago I re-decorated my bathroom with blue and brown. This vase was hideous. It was black with gold accents. So I spray painted it turquoise and then glazed it with my fav glaze, and it looks soooo much better now! If I ever find the before pic, I will post it so you can see the transformation:)

I wish I would have remembered to take a before picture of this...but I remembered to take one just after I had primed it. So, just imagine the ugliest color of wood...and that was it. So, the top picture is the white primer...But anyway, here is what it looks like now!:

Huge improvement if you ask me! I love this sage green color. It is actually the same paint I used on my front door and the accent color on the exterior of my house.
So, if you are wondering how to refinish something of your own, here is the rundown of what I did:
1.Prime it! Use and OIL BASED primer- I used Kilz Original- found at Home Depot.
2.Paint it! Any color you like!:)
3.Paint it again! Only if you think it needs a second coat though...if you like the way it looks, more power to ya!
4.Glaze it! This was my first time using the glaze, and I totally LOVE it! I used Ralph Lauren Faux Technique Glaze, tinted Tobacco. You get it at Home Depot, but make sure to ask them to tint it for you! Then just brush it on, and really get it into the cracks, and then wipe the excess off with a rag. This is by far my favorite step, cause you can get really artsy with it. It totally changes the piece!
5.Seal it! I used a high gloss sealant- Minwax Polyurithane. This stuff stinks. Just FYI.
6. Let it dry and you are done!

P.S. Let each coat/step DRY COMPLETELY before you apply the next. I learned this the hard way. I was so excited to get my glaze on...cause it's my fav step...and when I started rubbing the excess glaze off with my towel, it rubbed off some of my paint job too! Lesson learned.

I painted this lamp a while ago but I pulled together the other fabrics from the room and tied a bow around it, and the little star is actually supposed to be hanging from the middle of the bow...but it's not at the moment. I will get to it eventually:)

I painted these canvases a few years ago, and I still really like them, but they don't match my new living room, so I decided to cover them with fabric! Seriously, it took like two minutes and they look awesome! No sew, no glue. Just a staple gun and some fabric!
Here it is after! If you can't tell, I used the same fabric as my cedar chest cushion and pillows, and added the red star for a splash of color. I like to use the same fabrics in repetition throughout the room to make it come together. Love!

Cedar Chest Makeover!

I have had this old cedar chest for a few years now. I bought it at the DI for like $50, and said that I was going to give it a makeover...well, four years later....I did! I'm not gonna lie. I'm kind of conservative...so this was a huge change for me and when I painted it yellow, it was YELLOW. Like canary yellow. I about cried, cause I hated it. Then the next day I was gonna paint over it and decided to just glaze it with my Ralph Lauren faux technique glaze, and I totally LOVED it! So I learned my lesson- don't give up before you see the whole project done! Then you can always paint over it if you hate it. Anyway, here is the BEFORE:

After glazing it, I reupholstered the cushion with some (not very conservative) chocolate and white polka dot fabric. And I was a little apprehensive about that, but I totally love it!! I think every room needs a "statement piece" and this is totally it!:)

My new Photography Blog!

I have been super busy lately taking lots of pictures for people, so in order to create kind of a portfolio for myself, I created a blog. (Click the link or picture above to see it)
Photography has always been a HUGE PASSION of mine. Even when I was little I begged my Mom to buy me a disposable camera. Then in Jr. High I got my first camera, and you better believe I took TONS of pictures! High School was no different. I always had a camera with me, and was taking pictures of soccer practices, and games, or drill team practices and performances. In fact, I was even the historian. My High School graduation present from my family was my first video camera, and so when I performed on my college dance team, I recorded every performance...but I still took TONS of pictures. I have wanted to get better at photography for....ever... so I finally decided that if I am ever going to get better, I may as well start! So although I have a lot to learn, I am picking up tricks and techniques just by experimenting with all the shoots I have been doing, and I LOVE it! Not only do I love the actual picture taking, but I love seeing how I can get creative while I edit each photo. So anyway, check out my photography blog, and give me some feedback!! Cause that is how I will learn!:)

I got that table and chairs on KSL classifieds for $20! Score!! I (ok, my Dad) sanded it down, and then I stained it, and sealed it with polyurithane. I also covered the wicker part of the chairs with white vinyl fabric, cause they were really worn out.

Now all we need to do is put the rest of the hardware on the cabinets, finish the wood under the cabinets, put in our window sills, and finish the electrical on the garbage disposal and we are DONE!

Curb Appeal!

First impressions are SO important! So, having a great curb appeal is too! It's the first impression of your house, and the way you live! Here are a few ideas on how to update, or freshen up the look of your home!

Other things you can do to spruce up your curb appeal:
-spray paint some pots and plant flowers to put on your door step
-put out a cute bench, or seating area.
-put some pillows on your bench or chairs.
-vinyl lettering is inexpensive, and can make a big statement!
-landscaping- change up the plants in your yard- we are going to plant drought- resistant plants this fall!
-hang a cute wreath, or seasonal decoration--but be sure to only hang your favorites, so you don't look like you have a year round yard sale:)

My front door

Paint can make such a huge difference! I wasn't crazy about...well most of this door. So, I took the knobs apart, and spray painted them silver. Then I taped off the window and painted the trim white (instead of that awful coral color), and painted the whole door a cute dusty sage color! I love it. And I especially love the hook (that matches my door knob now), that holds my super cute wreath. Oh, and I even painted the yellowed door bell!
I still have to paint the trim, but that will happen when we paint the other accent colors that are still CORAL! So, be looking for pictures soon!

My favorite bench

Growing up, my family had a tradition. We would all go out and sit on the bench in our front yard. I lived in the middle of the city, so it's not like it was a serene place to be. BUT, we LOVED it! We loved watching people, and talking, and just hanging out together. So, when I got married, a family friend gave me this bench, in hopes we would continue our family tradition! We moved it to four different apartments, and finally to our first starter home! It was a little worn though, so I thought I would...you guessed it...spray paint it! I did it all white, since the trim on my house is white, and it looks really cute on the porch now:)

Can you spray paint ceiling fans?

YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT!!
First I took apart every little piece of this ceiling fan... every screw. It took forever...oh and later that day I got the flu, and so I didn't get very far for a few days. ANYWAYZZZ, I first hosed off all the fan blades so they were nice and clean. Then I let them dry. Then I spray painted them white. Then my husband helped me get the whole fixture off the ceiling, and he spray painted them silver. Here is the part that SUCKED: We didn't wait long enough for the silver paint to dry. We were too excited to see how nice they would look up, so we put them back together, and then turned them on. Silver paint splotches EVERYWHERE! On my NEW black leather sofas, our wood floor, our recliner, our clothes, our KIDS...ya, you get the picture. It made for a lot of clean up. So, WAIT til they are completely dry!! Oh, and only spray LIGHTLY onto the part where the motor is. My husband sprayed a little too much on one of them, and when we turned it on, we could hear the motor TRYING to turn, but it wouldn't. So we left it on for a couple nights, and then it worked fine. It was just really sticky from the paint that was still wet. So those are my two tips... of what not to do. But, I must say, I am VERY happy with the outcome of this project!!

Welcome to my kitchen, part 3

This may not look too exciting, but it is!:) Baseboards are in! And I love how they look!
I completed the painting of the cabinets a couple weeks ago, and I am so pleased with the transformation! We just need to add hardware and wainscotting/bead board to the ends, and they are done!
And this has been done for a while, but I need to document it. Car put the wood floor in, and it looks fabulous!
Here he is, installing it! Almost done!

As of today- July 30, 2010, this is what we have left in the kitchen:
-put wainscotting on cabinet ends
-put hardware on the rest of the cabinets
-install window sills
-finish electrical
and that is it!! Then I will have a functional, cute kitchen! YAY!

Welcome to my kitchen, part 2

Here is a picture of the kitchen just after we got it all drywalled and mudded. Car had just put in the countertop, and installed the cabinets to the wall. There is no spot for the sink yet in this picture, but that is where it is now.

Charlie is always in all the action, which makes the job a million times HARDER!! Seriously, I think our house would be totally renovated if we didn't have kids to take care of during the whole process! The plastic is over the cabinets and appliances so we could sand the mud- which is by far the WORST part of this whole thing!!!! Here Car is sanding the cabinets so we can prime and then paint them white! Sanding is also not a fun job. In all the pictures, Car is doing the work, but only cause he doesn't take pictures of me working. I am totally in the thick of it too though, and I sanded my little heart out!
This is a picture looking into the kitchen from the front room. I think this was right before we sanded. You can see the sink to the right that Car installed.
This is a picture of my paint job, just after I cut in all the edges. It took FOREVER! I did this while Car was at work, so I had both kids to handle, and it was NOT EASY!

The paint is complete in this picture, but it totally clashes with the hideous cabinets, which is why we painted the cabinets white!:)
The cabinets are now a nice, clean white, with cute dark bronze hardware! It took a very long time to sand, prime and paint these, and also to take them apart and put them back together at the end! Not to mention putting the hardware on, but it's worth it!!
As of TODAY- July 13, the wood floor is installed (pictures coming soon), the electrical is done, the kitchen is painted, half the cabinets are painted, and the rest are primed. Our new 2 person breakfast table is in there, and I have a sink full of dishes...Oh, and we have half the baseboards in. Now we need to put the wainscotting/bead board on the sides of the cabinets, finish the baseboard, and frame a door, then finish painting the rest of the cabinets, and......we will be done! I will keep you updated:)

Remember this wall paper? I thought this would be the biggest project we had ahead...but as you see below this post, I was dead wrong. Yes, tearing off all that wall paper was hellish, and painting wasn't a treat, but it was nothing compared to our other projects.

STARTING to come together. My Dad is a painter, and he had this room primed in less than 45 minutes! He is SO fast!!
And here I am, painting my little heart out, while Car demo'd the kitchen and boys' bedroom, and the kids were screaming. FUN!!
It's a two toned room, with a white chair rail separating them. I will post pictures of the completed room when I get around to it!

Welcome to my kitchen, part 1

These first few pictures were taken the day we got our keys. We were just checking things out, and taking pictures...
The walls were a make shift sort of cardboard stuff that were glued onto the plaster walls behind them.
And the part of the wall at the top had SEVEN layers of wall paper on them!!! So when we started to tear the wall paper off, we realized that the whole wall needed to be taken down and replaced with drywall.
We thought this was an odd choice to put a GIANT shelf in this space...
until we moved it and discovered that THIS was why it was there:

Oh, just a big hole in the wall. This was once a door that connected a bedroom to the kitchen. WIERD!!
Here are a couple pictures of us still in the discovery stage of the massive project ahead...
And then came the DEMO...hours and hours of demo... seriously, Car would come home from work, and spend ALL night- usually til about 1am demolishing the lath and plaster walls. He would come home seriously BLACK, and it didn't wash off easily either- it took him about 40 minutes to scrub it off. Our great friend, Bryant helped a lot with the demo, too. THANK YOU BRYANT!!!

So, that's it! You thought you were going to see pictures of my cute decorated kitchen, right? WRONGO! We have now lived here for a week and a half, and the walls have now been drywalled, but we still have to hang the cabinets, then finish sanding, and put in the wood floor, then paint. But, I have to hand it to my husband for working SO dang hard!! He has laid the sub floor, installed the bottom cabinets, put in the sink (hopefully he will get it working today), installed most of the plumbing, framed and hung drywall, mudded the drywall, etc. It is getting there. But, if I have to live in a construction zone for too much longer, I think I might scream!! I haven't been able to cook, or wash my dishes for almost 2 weeks!! It's getting really old.

Embroidered Baby Blanky!

My sister in law, Amy, gave me this cute blanket when I had Owen. I just love it. I have made similar projects in the past by embroidering a tag and then sewing it on a ready made blanket, but I really love how she embroidered a little dog on there too, with his name. I just had to take some pictures of my super cute boy with his blanky!

Family Photo Shoot

Just before my favorite neighbor and I moved out of our apartment complex a few weeks ago, I took her family pictures. Her girls are just the cutest and we miss them all so much! :(

I made some little collages of each of her girls cause I just couldn't pick a favorite. Each picture had so much personality in it!

Stepstool Makeover!

(My little boy couldn't understand why I was taking a picture of an empty chair, so he went ahead and sat on it for me. How sweet he is!:) We got this retro stepstool a while ago at the DI, and have been using it as my little boy's high chair- with a booster seat on top of it. But now it is too high for our new kitchen table. So I took the booster off, only to remember that it looked like this underneath!:

So I got out some of my favorite fabric, and reupholstered it! I also gave it a major cleaning, cause if you have kids, you know that where they eat is probably the messiest place ever! So here it is before:

I took these pictures of my little guy by sitting him in his little bumbo chair, and then draping fabric around it, and tucking it into the drawers of my armoire to make a background. I had those wooden letters from some decorations that say "spring", and "flowers", and I used the letters of his name from them:)

Since I love taking pictures of my kids, I like to set up a little photography backdrop when I take them. I just got some black fabric at walmart, and I drape it over my recliner in front of a window... and you have a homemade photography setup!

I made this mini brag book keychain out of laminated card protectors that you can find in the office supply section at wal mart. I made mini scrapbook pages for each of my Mom's grandkids so she can carry them around on her keys and whip them out at any given moment to brag about them:) Last year for her birthday I gave her a mini tin scrapbook, but it was all the grandkids' favorite toy and it is now in smitherines, so I made her something more durable:)

I made this cake for my Mom's birthday! I used a frosting recipe that I knew was not the best for cake decorating, but it was DELICIOUS! My little two year old LOVES stickers. It is his very favorite thing to play with. And Mommy's scrapbook stickers are his preferred choice, of coarse. While we were in the hospital with my 6 week old, the nurse gave my two year old some stickers to play with while he visited. He couldn't have been happier!!
The best place to stick them is in the hair. Or on the face. Or all over the house.

Flower fix up

I have a very.....creative....2 year old. He got so creative that he got out a bottle of Ranch dressing from the fridge, and poured it all over behind my rocking chair, on the carpet, ottomans, and on one of my favorite (artificial) potted plants. I had to throw the plant away, cause I was not about to clean each little crevice on each little leaf. So I pulled out the plant part, and cleaned up the pot so I could use it later. I went to the dollar store and got some fake flowers and popped them in the floral foam, and you've got a whole different look!
My Easter/Spring window sill. I'm in the process of buying my first home- an old fixer upper:) and I made the letters "imagine" for my kids' playroom...more to come on that, but I love my flowers in the middle of it all!

Baby Essential

I think that this is one of the most essential things for babies:) It's a scrapbook/ baby's first year calendar, and I just LOVE it! I had one for my first son also. I love it because I don't have time to scrapbook every single memory during my baby's first year, so as the month rolls along, I jot down memories, experience, my baby's stats (weight, height, etc.), and milestones. It's the perfect way to remember that first year! Plus it's super cute, and has places to put pictures of them as they grow! I got mine at Seagull Book. But I have also made my own in the past for presents to give at showers.

Missionary Mini Photo Album

My little sister is going on a mission soon, so for her birthday I made her a little scrapbook that will fit in her scripture bag, so that she can show the people on her mission pictures from home. My husband took a small album on his mission and he said that everyone loved to look at it.
I put pictures of where she is from- UT, and a picture of our parents. And a picture of the Salt Lake Temple.
I left a page for her to put pictures of her home- so my parents house, and the mountains that they see every day. (One of my very favorite things about UT!)
And I left some pictures for her to put our family pictures in that we are getting taken in a couple months- right before she leaves:) This book is also for her to carrier a little piece of home with her where ever she goes:)

Etched pictures

I etched a bunch of pictures for Christmas gifts, and I didn't want to post them til after Christmas, so that I wouldn't ruin the surprise!:)
you can see the etch in this one better than the first. It's a picture of Christ and little children and I etched the words "as I have loved you". I gave this one to my little sister who is going on a mission soon!
I etched "rausch", my aunt and uncle's last name, and their anniversary at the bottom.
And I gave this one to my Mom. Her Dad (who passed away before I was born) took this picture of the St. George temple when he was on his honeymoon with my grandma, in the 50's. Pretty good quality for it being so old! But I blew up the picture, and etched the word "eternity" on it.

I made this bracelet out of old watch faces that have dead batteries. I got most of them at the DI, and so it was super cheap, and then I just tied it all together with ribbons, and I think it's pretty dang cute!:) Not to mention, clever. lol

Christmas Advent Calendar

This is a very special advent calendar. I grew up with one just like it, and this Christmas, my Mom decided to make them for my sisters...but she told me that I was capable of making my own...so I did:) lol She helped though:) But I remember when I was just little, looking forward to picking out one of the stuffed felt peices from the pockets, and putting it on. So I wanted to keep that tradition for my own kids!
This thing is a piece of work, I tell you! It took HOURS and HOURS to make!! Each piece is hand cut, hand pieced, and hand embroidered. But it was all worth it!:)

Obviously I haven't finished this, but I love the idea of it. I love looking at it and seeing how much my baby boy changed each month during his first year. I still need to fill in a few months though!:) But I changed this frame up a bit. It was a baby blue color, and it didn't match his room, so I mod podged some scrapbook paper onto it, touched it up with paint, and now it matches his fisherman room perfectly!:)

I seriously can't live without these binky clips that I made! They are SO convenient! I love them mostly because you don't have to worry about the binky falling on the floor, or losing it. It's always attached to the babe! Awesome!

Christmas Decorations...a little late

My husband made this awesome pinata!! And I decorated it:) It took forever- with the newspaper strips, dipping it in a glue mixture, and putting it over the balloons. But, it was worth it! It turned out so good!

Some of my ornaments. Growing up, my Mom always had a picture of each of us kids on the tree. I loved it, so I am continuing the tradition! I just got the plain wood picture frame ornaments at Roberts, and then colored them with Sharpies!:)

Glass pendants, and picture frame necklaces!

I made these glass tile pendants by putting cute scrapbook paper behind them and then glazing them to stay together. Then I attach a necklace bail, and put them on chains or other necklaces, and that's it! With sold colored glass tiles (that you can buy at Home Depot), I put vinyl on them, and they are super cute too!

I even put rub ons on some of them!

And I put pictures behind some of the clear tiles, and glazed the backs. And here is one of the picture frame necklaces that I made. It's a picture of my oldest son, Charlie. I love it!!

This year, I decided that instead of dressing up my little Charlie boy like Harry Potter like I had planned, I would save the $50 (I know, are you kidding me!?), and throw something together for him that would be equally as awesome:) So, he was a BOXER! I put his bath robe on him, that I bought a while a go at Susie's Deals for $1, dressed him in black under neath, since it's cold here in UT, got some child size boxing gloves off ebay for $6, and made him a championship belt with vinyl that I designed and cut with my cricut! I even put purple eye shadow around his eye, and everyone thought that he really had a horrible black eye:) lol

I hope it's not too girly, but I made this blanky for my little one who will be here any day now! (I'm HUGE!) I used some of my favorite colors and fabrics. I love the backing I used. It's a minky fabric, with embossed hearts.

Wedding Video for my sister

For my sister's birthday this year, I made her a wedding video! She has been married for over 11 years now, but since wedding videos weren't exactly the big trend back then, she didn't have one. So I spent HOURS scanning in all of her old photos from both of their childhoods, growing up, dating, and wedding pictures! Then I put together a slide show with adorable music, and even "light scribed" the cd with pictures of them on it. Love it!
I also made two photo collages- one for the front cover, and one for the back cover!

Although I am DAYS away from giving birth, I packed up my two year old and lugged him into that store, and I don't regret it! A Lady Bug Baby Shower!

Lady bug cookies. I used chocolate chocolate chip cookies, and put red icing on in the shape of wings. Then I took a grasshopper mint cookie and stuck it on there for a head, smarties for the eyes, and chocolate frosting for the polka dots! They weren't only adorable, but delicious too!!

Homemade Halloween Treats!

I started with a chocolate pretzel mold kit that I got at Wal Mart. And it didn't come with long pretzels, so I had to hunt them down, and I finally found them at the dollar store! I took each pretzel, and wrapped a caramel apple wrap around it, so that when you bite into it, there is a layer of chocolate, caramel, and pretzel! MMMM!
They took a really long time to make, but they turned out cute, and my friends and family loved them:) So did I!

Cute Sock Monkey!

A while ago, a friend of mine taught me how to make sock monkeys. It's so much fun, and they are so cute!! I made this one for my little niece who just turned two. I embroidered the smile, and eye lashes, added some button eyes, soft ball ears, and a little skirt that I sewed. I think she is pretty cute:)
Here is a picture of my niece when she opened what my Mom gave her. It's a little fabric doll house (that I helped her sew together), and a bunch of little stuffed bunnies that she made. You can see the sock monkey I made for her sitting in that victoria's secret bag. lol It's the only pink one I had, though!:)

I decided that I hate when people would come over and see our ugly mess of an armoire when they walk through our front door. So in an effort to take the focus off the cords, etc, I put some vinyl lettering up on the inside of the door! I am still going to tape the cords to the outside of the armoire so they aren't visible, but for now, I am looking at my cute lettering:)

I got my husband this herb kit for Christmas last year. I even cut out vinyl with each of the herbs names to stick on the pots. Super cute, right? (We were both really excited about it at the time.) Well, I think we both suck at watering them, or making them grow, cause they didn't. I mean, they sprouted, but then we didn't know what to do with them. Oh, you cook with these things?? Ya, didn't do that. So, they died. And a piece of my heart died with it. So, I dug up these herbs...or what was left of them, and threw them away. Then I got some florist foam from the dollar store, and stuck it in the bottom of the pots. And I just shoved some artificial plants in there. And now it looks like I am oh so green, and grow my own plants. Ha!And this is the finished "fake out" herb arrangement. I put some artificial yellow pears by them too, just for a pop of color. And I must say, this is a major improvement to my dead window sill display before.

From messy bookcase to organization station!

Here is my bookcase before the makeover. It has so much junk on it- like books we never read, random stuff we throw on it when we walk in the door, decorations, decorations, decorations.
Sooo, I wanted to simplify it, and make it much more useable space instead! FIRST: I de-junked it. Got rid of tons of magazines, books, old decorations,etc. Then, I took out the second shelf, and added some wainscotting panels to the back of the shelf. Then I painted them black, added some cute hooks, got some adorable apple baskets, made tags to label what is in them, and that's it! I am very happy with the improvement, and I must say, I am losing my keys, and shoes a lot less now that they have an assigned spot in my home!

AND AFTER:

Yes, I already have my Christmas stuff up. But, this is not to showcase my adorable handmade stockings, but to show the new backsplash, and hooks that I installed.
My awesome apple baskets that fit perfectly in my bookcase! I have them labeled- one for shoes, one for toys, one for books, and one for photo albums. I use the smaller baskets on the top shelf to hold my scarfs, gloves, and hats, and the other to hold our hand sanitizer, and any other odds and ends that we might throw in there when we walk in the door: like wallets, sunglasses, receipts, etc. And we hang out keys on the hooks! And please excuse my little monster in this one. I think he was yelling at me, and standing on my Christmas decor boxes that I just got the Christmas tree and ornaments out of!:)

I made this sign so that on each of my family member's birthdays, I can put this on our front door, so that everyone knows that we are havin a party that day!:) And to make the birthday boy or girl feel super special! I bought the sign at the dollar store, painted it green, cut some vinyl with my cricut, slapped it on, added some ribbon, and that is it!:)

From one kind of creativity to another...

I have just been thinking about how I have always LOVED getting my creative juices flowing. I have always loved crafts, and stuff, but when you are young, at least when I was younger, I didn't have a lot of opportunities to do crafts, paint, sew, etc. But, I did have one HUGE creative outlet, and that was DANCE!!! I was on every dance team that was available to me. I just loved it. From Jr. High, to High School, clear through college, I was dancing all the time. I miss it now. But at the same time, I have found so many other ways to use my creativity. It's interesting how as life changes, so do your hobbies. Now I am the mother of (almost) two boys- or at least I will be soon!!:) I can't just drop everything and go be on a dance team. That's just not practical for the kind of Mom and wife I want to be. But I am so glad that I have the opportunity to discover and learn new creative outlets. It's just too much fun!:) I LOVE CREATING!

Oh to see the world through Gavin's eyes...
My nephew, Gavin is a very special little guy. He is five years old, and has quite an eye for photography! He was diagnosed with severe Autism, and ADHD when he was about three years old. So you can imagine this kid's energy level!! But I just wanted to share some of his pictures. They are so great. It's amazing what kind of creativity he has, even with his disability. He is so talented and smart!

Etched glass, Christ picture

Stupid blogger won't upload my pictures right, no matter which way I rotate them, so just pretend they are rotated.:)
I wanted to show you HOW TO etch glass. First, you need a pretty picture, mirror, or anything glass, a vinyl stencil (I made mine with my Cricut machine), & etching cream.
Then, you apply your vinyl stencil, and put plenty of etching cream over the stencil. Lay it on thick. Then you wait a few minutes, wash off the etching cream with a wet paper towel, and then take off the stencil, wipe it all off with another wet paper towel, and you are done! So easy!:)
I wish I had a better picture, because this really doesn't do it justice! It is so pretty in real life! I made it for my sisters "secret sister". It says "Hope in Christ", and at the bottom, "Oakcrest 2009"- which is an LDS girls camp here in UT that my sister worked at this summer.
I put it on a really pretty easel that I got at Rod Works- one of my favorite stores!

Etched glass temple picture

My cousin got married in the Salt Lake temple last week, and I made this for her. I etched the glass with her new last name, and also her anniversary date. I got the frame for cheap at the DI, and spray painted it black.
